CCSG Player Ratings: Matchday 26 @ York United
I sit here, writing this at halftime, because trying to evaluate 65 minutes of a game down to ten men is an entirely fruitless venture. It's not as if there was much of anything to speak about for the first 25 anyway. Just more of the same moribund attack that can be best compared to the corpse of Tutankhamun. But none of that matters in the end, and we all know why.
#6 Liberman Torres:
(0) What an unbelievably selfish thing to do in the most important game of the season. This wasn't a red card that was a mistake, nor was it one that you could think to defend. It was nothing more than Liberman having his ego bruised because he got chirped. It hurts so much because of how well he had played in recent weeks, only to throw it all away because he got baited by the most simplistic shit possible. It is absolutely braindead to even consider putting yourself in that situation, and yet he did it. He let himself down, his teammates down, and every single person who has ever thought to support this club. Saying that he'll never play for this club again isn't any sort of hyperbole, because the 3 game suspension he'll receive for this will be the final 3 games this team plays this season. Because, there's no way on earth this team wins a playoff game the way we're playing, regardless of Liberman Torres’ status.
Like I said, there's no point in evaluating the rest of the team, even if the giveaway that led to York's goal made me lose every ounce of hope in my body. They were let down more than we were, because they didn't get a chance to finish this game. The difference between finishing 2nd and 3rd is astronomical in terms of potential for continental play, and even more so to 4th, which looks all the more likely with this result. As a reminder, Atletico Ottawa now falls to 4-10-7 under Carlos González in the months of September and October. Tottenham would be proud of the bottling this team does.
About Patrick
Having joined CCSG in 2022, Patrick started his footie career playing at the age of 4 and began watching the pros around the same time. While the first pro team he supported was Manchester United, as soon as Atlético Ottawa came to town, he was immediately on board. His wealth of footie knowledge has been a constant asset, along with his role as caretaker for Atléti Wikipedia pages.
